MORE than 1,400 new measles cases were validated over the past two weeks, the Department of Health (DoH) said, as it kept the outbreak status in some regions.

Health Undersecretary Rolando Domingo previously said that there must be no new cases for about six consecutive weeks in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Central and Western Visayas before the DoH could say that the epidemic was under control.

The latest figure brings the total number of measles cases to 28,362 cases with 389 deaths since January 1. This is higher than the 6,053 with 53 deaths reported in the same period in 2018.

Metro Manila has the highest number with 5,749 cases with 104 deaths. Calabarzon recorded the most number of deaths at 107 out of 5,450 cases.
