Former matinee idol Jose Mari Gonzalez passes away

FORMER matinee idol and San Juan representative Jose Mari Gonzalez passed away at  6:30 a.m. on Tuesday from pneumonia and cardiac arrest. He was 80 years old.

Aster Amoyo, publicist of Gonzalez’s daughter Cristina “Kring-Kring” Gonzalez-Romualdez, said the wake of the former actor and government official would start on Wednesday at the Heritage Memorial Chapel in Taguig City on Friday. Interment to be announced later.

Gonzalez-Romualdez, who is incumbent Tacloban City mayor, confirmed the death of her father also on Facebook.

“Goodbye Dad!  You have been a Blessing to Mom me jolong mike anna chemari and to our whole family. I am blessed to have you as my father. So many good memories with you and Mom since we were little never failing to take us with you on your trips out of town. Being quite strict to us but within reason. I have learned so much from you. You will always be in our hearts! We love you Dad!” she said.

He is survived by his wife Rosario “Chayong” Mallarky-Gonzalez, children Gonzalez-Romualdez, Jose Luis, Michael, Anna and Jose Mari, Jr. and grandchildren.  ARLO CUSTODIO
