7 hurt as ceiling collapses at Clark International Airport

MANILA, Philippines — Seven persons were reported injured after part of the ceiling at Clark International Airport in Pampanga collapsed during a strong quake that shook parts of Luzon on Monday.
Jaime Melo, president of Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC), said the ceiling of the check-in lobby collapsed, hitting seven persons who sustained minor injuries.
They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital.
The runway and taxiway of the airport were not damaged, according to the airport crisis team.
“We have to ensure the soundness of the building structure and other facilities as we are assessing other structural damages around the airport,” Melo said in a statement.
The Clark International Airport, which serves as an alternative to Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport, will be closed for 24 hours after the building itself was heavily damaged.
