THE number coding traffic scheme for public utility vehicles (PUVs) in Metro Manila remained suspended on Tuesday to provide commmuters with additional transport, a day after a strong earthquake struck parts of Luzon.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) gave its directive despite the resumption of train operations.

The MMDA said, however, that the suspension did not include private vehicles, said MMDA spokesman Celine Pialago.

Under the number coding scheme, both private and public vehicles are banned on the road for a day depending on the last number on their license plates.

Vehicles with plates ending in 1 and 2 are banned on Monday; 3 and 4 on Tuesday; 5 and 6 on Wednesday; 7 and 8 on Thursday; and 9 and 0 on Friday.

Provincial buses, which are undergoing a dry-run for their impending ban along EDSA, were temporarily allowed to load passengers to assist commuters following the suspension of the train operations on Monday.

The MMDA started its dry-run as part of its bid to ease traffic in Metro Manila.

The major earthquake hit Luzon at past 5 p.m. on Monday. Its epicenter was in Castillejos town in Zambales. NEIL JAYSON N. SERVALLOS
