The father of Carl Angelo Arnaiz has extended his condolences to the family of Police Patrolman Ricky Arquilita, one of the policemen tagged in the killing of his son in 2017.

“Nabawasan na ng isa ang pumatay sayo,” he said in a Facebook post, addressing his son. “R.I.P. Ricky Arquilita.”

Carlito said he and his wife, Eva, heard about Arquilita’s death from Prosecutor Xerxes Garcia.

On Wednesday, defense counsel Dodjie Encinas said that Arquilita passed away in confinement on April 20.

Arquilita’s death certificate showed that he died at 3:26 a.m. due to massive blood loss, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, multiple liver nodules, and gallstones on his gallbladder.

“Syempre nakakalungkot din naman,” Carlito said. “Karma na siguro ‘yan kay Arquilita.”

Although Arquilita’s charges will be dismissed once the Navotas City Regional Trial Court receives his death certificate, Carlito said they “will still get justice” for Carl’s killing since Patrolman Jeffrey Perez is still on trial.

“Makukuha pa rin namin ang hustisya, nandyan pa naman si Perez,” he said.

The next bail hearing for the murder and planting of evidence charges against Perez is set on June 3.

Carl, a 19-year-old University of the Philippines student, went missing on the night of August 17, 2017 after he went out of his house in Cainta, Rizal to buy snacks.

He was found dead 10 days later in a morgue in Caloocan City with five bullet wounds and several bruises.

Carl’s parents say that he was picked up and tortured by the two policemen, but the lawmen claimed that Carl was a holdup man and fired at them, leaving them no choice but to retaliate. (Minka Tiangco)
