MANILA, Philippines—The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the Luzon grid under yellow and red alerts on Monday due to low power reserves.

In an advisory, the NGCP placed the largest grid in the country under a yellow alert from  9 a.m. to 1 p.m., 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

It will be under red alert from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

With a red alert status, the NGCP may implement rotational brownouts to maintain the integrity of the grid.

Available capacity is at  10,830 megawatts (MW) while peak demand is pegged at  10,371 MW, the NGCP said.

“Details on the cause to be announced by the Department of Energy (DOE) later in the day,” it added.

Last week, the NGCP put the Luzon grid under yellow and red alerts after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake damaged some power generators.
