Former rights activist arrested for drugs in Davao City

DAVAO CITY — A former human rights activist in Southern Mindanao was arrested at a checkpoint here after he was found in possession of an improvised tooter with a residue of crystal meth, or shabu, police said.

Kelly Delgado, former secretary general of the human rights group Karapatan in Southern Mindanao, was arrested at the Task Force Davao checkpoint in Lasang here on Saturday, April 27, for having in his hands an improvised tooter with a residue of shabu.

Delgado was subjected to an inquest for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 at the City Prosecutors Office on Monday, where he posted bail.

But police said he would remain in jail for other pending warrants of arrest for arson, multiple murder and grave threats he allegedly committed in Bayugan, Agusan and Esperanza.

Maj. Noel Villahermosa, Bunawan police chief, told the Inquirer Delgado admitted owning the improvised tooter.

Villahermosa said Delgado was on his way to Davao City from Davao del Norte when he was arrested.
