THE yellow alert that was raised in the Luzon grid early Tuesday had been lifted as power demand declined, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said.

In its advisory, the grid operator said available capacity was at 11,368 megawatts (MW) while peak demand was at 10,714 MW.

In a separate advisory, the Department of Energy (DoE) said the 345-MW Unit 2 of GNPower Mariveles Coal Power Plant Ltd., as well as Units 1 and 2 of SMC Consolidated Power Corp., each with a capacity of 150 MW, remain on forced outage caused by the magnitude 6.1 earthquake that struck Luzon on April 22.

A 300-MW Unit 2 of SEM-Calaca Power Corp. had also been on unscheduled shutdown since Sunday because of a boiler tube leak.

Unit 1 of TeaM Energy Corp. and Unit 3 of Pagbilao Energy Corp. are running at a de-rated or reduced capacity of 82 MW and 180 MW, respectively.

Pagbilao Unit 1 has a boiler feed pump problem while Pagbilao Unit 3’s boiler condition is still being assessed as of posting time.

The NGCP defines yellow alert as a system condition in which the reserves are less than the capacity of the biggest plant online, which is 647 MW for Luzon. JORDEENE B. LAGARE
