THE Gabriela Women’s (Gabriela) party-list topped a survey on the likely winners from 134 accredited party-list groups vying for seats at the House of Representatives.

Gabriela, with 10.8 percent, was joined in the top 10 by newcomer WOW Pilipinas with 4.5 percent, and incumbents Buhay Hayaang Yumabong (Buhay), 9.3 percent; Ako Bicol Political Party (Ako Bicol), 6.1 percent; Anakpawis, 5.5 percent; Akbayan Citizens Action Party, 5.1 percent; Coalition of Associations of Senior Citizens in the Philippines, 4.7 percent; Bayan Muna, 4.2 percent; Serbisyo sa Bayan Partylist , 3.4 percent, and ACT Teachers, 3.2 percent, according to a non-commissioned survey from April 22 to 27 by the RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc (RPMDINC) on 8,000 respondents at the National Capital Region.

Dr. Paul Martinez of RPMDINC said on Tuesday that the recall of WOW party-list was so high because it had been endorsed by Senator Manny Pacquiao.

“It was able to translate its popularity into votes,” he said, adding that the nine others, being incumbents, have a high recall because of a captured electorate.

Based on the Party-List law, a group that acquires 2 percent of the total number of voters is guaranteed a seat in the House.

The law was amended by the Supreme Court to ensure that party-list groups made up 20 percent of the House membership.

A total of 60 party-list seats and 243 district seats are up for grabs in the midterm polls on May 13. WILLIAM B. DEPASUPIL
