MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reminded voters to verify the votes they cast through the voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) on May 13.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said Monday the voters should check if the VVPAT reflects whom they voted for before placing it inside the Voter’s Receipt Receptacle located next to the voting counting machines (VCMs).

“Tignan niya yung VVPAT, o ‘yung resibo, kung sang-ayon sa nakasulat. Ihuhulog niya sa isang receptacle o kahon sa tabi nung mismong VCM,” Jimenez said in an interview with dzMM.

If the voter has a complaint regarding the VVPAT, he or she must bring it to the board of election inspectors (BEIs).

“Kung meron naman siyang reklamo, kailangan niyang dalhin doon sa board of election inspectors at kanilang kukunin ‘yung contact information, i-note ‘yung kanyang complaint,” Jimenez explained.

“Magiging basehan ‘yan for future legal process. Again, like I said, kung matuloy sana ‘yung balak, ay maging bahagi pa yan ng random manual audit,” he added.

According to Comelec’s website, random manual audit is the process of examination to determine whether the automated count of the VCMs under an Automated Election System is accurate based on a manual verification of the count. /cbb
