SUSPENDED Mayor Carlwyn Baldo of Daraga, Albay evaded arrest as police failed to serve a warrant of arrest against him for the murder of AKO-Bicol representative Rodel Batocabe in December 2018.

Police Col. Wilson Asueta, Albay provincial director, confirmed to The Manila Times in a text message that Baldo was neither in his residence in Tagas village nor in his office.

The Legaspi Regional Trial Court Branch 10 issued the warrant for multiple and attempted murders in the shooting of Batocabe and his security escort, Police Master Sgt. Orlando Diaz, that also resulted in injuries to bystanders during a gift-giving event in Daraga on December 22.

Baldo, a re-electionist, was supposed to face Batocabe in Daraga’s mayoralty elections.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) previously tagged Baldo as the primary suspect but he denied the accusations and said that he was being used a scapegoat.

The Lakas-CMD (Christian Muslim Democrats) where he is a member dropped him from its roster of candidates.

Six other suspects pointed to Baldo as the mastermind in separate extrajudicial confessions.

Baldo is also facing administrative charges filed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
