Kris Aquino backs Binay siblings in May poll campaign

MANILA, Philippines — Actress and TV personality Kris Aquino has given her support for the reelection bid of Sen. Nancy Binay and the Makati mayoral bid of Jejomar “Junjun” Binay Jr.
Aquino visited Barangay Rizal in Makati on Monday night together with her youngest son Bimby and singer Erik Santos, who serenaded the crowd.
In her speech, Aquino said she attended the event to give back to her close friend Anne Binay, a sister of the two candidates, who had been there for her throughout the years.
“Wala akong ibang caucus, rally or event na political na pinuntahan except this. And only for one reason. Kasi siguro po naiintindihan niyo ako na alam mo kung ang kaibigan mo nangangailangan,” Aquino said.
[I have not gone to any other political caucus, rally, or event except this. And only for one reason. Maybe you understand me, that you know when a friend is in need.]
“At ako, sa lahat ng beses ng buhay ko na kinailangan ko ng may makinig sa akin ’pag heartbroken ako, ’pag kailangan ko ng advice, si Anne nandoon parati para sa akin,” Aquino added.
[And in my case, in all those moments in my life when I needed someone to listen me when I was heartbroken, when I needed advice, Anne was always there for me.]
In the nine years of their friendship, Aquino said Anne never asked for anything except her attendance to the caucus.
“Wala po ever hiningi si Anne sa akin in the nine years of our closeness. Wala siyang hiningi. Except sinabi niya: ‘May event kami tonight. Pwede mo bang isingit?’ Sabi ko: ‘I can do much more than that,’” Aquino said.
[Anne has never asked me for anything in the nine years of our closeness. She asked for nothing. Except whe she said: We have an event tonight. Can you fit in your schedule? I said: I can do much more than that.]
Aquino went on: “And tumatanaw lang din ako ng napakalaking utang na loob dahil nga si Anne hindi talaga ako pinabayaan. Kaya nung hiningi niyang nandito ako para tumayo katabi niya — katabi ng ate at kuya niya — nandito ako.”
[And I’m just paying for such a big debt of gratitude that I owe Anne, because she never neglected me. So when she asked me to be here beside her — beside her older sister and older brother — I came here.]
Aquino also shared how she even consulted her lawyers on what she would be allowed to say.
“Nagtanong ako sa lawyers kung ano ba ang pwede kong sabihin. Pwede ko raw sabihin: ‘Good luck, I am praying for you’ and ‘May God bless you with victory,’” Aquino said.
Earlier, during an event in Laguna, Aquino endorsed the reelectoin bid of her cousin Sen. Bam Aquino and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno.
