A safe and happy Philippines is all President Duterte wants to achieve before he ends his term.

Addressing an administration campaign rally in Pasig City Saturday, the President explained that his government has waged efforts to keep law and order as well as combat corruption to help attain his dream for the nation.

“I’d like to state two things which you might want to remember always. Tutal, mawala rin ako. I will finish my term or earlier maybe,” he said in his remarks.

“One is that we love our country. We want our country to progress. We want our children and grandchildren secured. We want to see a happy Philippines. Lahat tayo, nag-ano ng ganung dream,” he added.

Duterte, however, stressed that the country would not attain progress if there is a breakdown in law and order as well as rampant corruption in government.

He noted that his administration has already launched a relentless campaign against illegal drugs and other crimes and will sustain these efforts in the remainder of his term. “We must have law and order before we can really be a nation that is safe, a nation that is secure for our people, for our children, and for our country,” he said.

Duterte also highlighted his anti-corruption crackdown, citing the dismissal of many officials linked to abuse and other irregularities. He renewed his appeal to the public to report any complaint of corruption so appropriate action can be taken.

“If the Filipino would be assertive, wala talagang problema. We must be freed of corruption in government,” he said.

Duterte, almost halfway though his six-year term, admitted that the presidency is “not an easy job.”

He said he does not have regrets about running for President but he would “decide with caution.”

Duterte said he has discouraged his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte from following his footsteps since the presidency is a thankless job.

“You know, it’s not an easy job. Kaya si Inday, sinabi ko talaga: Huwag kang pumasok diyan sa presidente na ‘yan. Wala kang makuha diyan. For as long as there are parasites and there are leeches and there are people who can be bought, people bereft or totally bankrupt of their principles in life. Talagang mahihirapan ka,” he said.
