Treñas keeps big lead in Iloilo City mayoralty race

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Iloilo City Rep. Jerry Treñas appeared poised to retake his previous post as city mayor as he was leading by a wide margin on Monday against his brother-in-law, Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III.

With votes from 384 out of 388 clustered precincts canvassed, Treñas garnered 132,902 votes, more than double Espinosa’s 64,602 votes.

Only 3,476 votes remained to be canvassed as of midnight.

Treñas’s running mate, Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, was also leading by a wide margin with 118,004 votes compared to his closest rival, Councilor Plaridel Nava who has 61,251 votes. Nava has conceded defeat.
