PPCRV also waiting for Comelec to explain glitches

MANILA, Philippines — The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) has clarified that it too was waiting for the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to explain the glitches in the transparency server that caused the delay of the release of election results.
PPCRV Spokesperson Agnes Gervacio told reporters on Tuesday that they are accredited by the Comelec merely as a citizen’s arm dependent for information from the poll-governing body.
“Nag-iintay din kami ng paliwanag from Comelec, as you would understand, kami, ang malaking trabaho talaga namin ay ‘yong nakikita niyong computers, ‘pag input natin manually ng election returns,” Gervacio said.
“Kasi kami ay recipient lang din ng data. At the end of the day, ang transparency server belongs to the Comelec, and we are just a recipient of the data it would send out. So we’re waiting for them as we speak,” she added.
Gervacio also reiterated that the function of PPCRV centers is focused on auditing the Comelec’s election results by doing its own tally based on election returns.
“What are we doing as PPCRV? We’re making sure that as we get the election returns we will be able to encode them and make sure it matches everything, and we can say that yes, these are the correct results,” she asserted.
The Comelec said a glitch with the transparency server had caused the delay in the release of partial election results.
The poll body said there was no problem with the vote counting machines’ transmittal of votes, but a data packet glitch prevented the issuance of vote tallies to PPCRV and the media outfits that partnered with the poll watchdog.
After an initial release at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, comprising 0.38 percent of precincts nationwide, the next update came at 2:00 a.m. of Tuesday, with more than 90 percent of all polling areas accounted for.
However, the tally went down again due to a minor error. The PPCRV’s transparency server showed that the voter turnout dropped from 70 percent in 5:48 a.m. to 38 percent by 6:21 a.m on Tuesday.
