Singsons dominate Ilocos Sur polls

NARVACAN, ILOCOS SUR — Former Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson beat the patriarch of the ruling political clan of this town in the mayoral race here.

Singson, who is an incumbent town councilor, was proclaimed on Monday evening as the new town mayor with 16,551 votes against his long-time rival Edgardo Zaragoza who obtained 7,995 votes.

Singson’s running mate Pablito Sanidad Sr. also won as this town’s vice mayor with 14,081 votes, dislodging Zaragoza’s daughter incumbent Vice Mayor Fayinna Pilar Zaragoza-Delgado.

All the eight councilor candidates in Singson’s slate also won, dominating the local elections.

Singson’s son and younger brother-Ilocos Sur Gov. Ryan Luis Singson and Vice Gov. Jeremias Singson-were reelected as they defeated their opponents, who are Zaragoza’s siblings Narvacan town Mayor Zuriel and Anicka, respectively.
