Ex-US Marine kills 2, suffocates to death in Cebu fire

A former United States Marine killed two persons and then burned his house down, causing him to suffocate to death, in Cebu on Thursday.
The fatalities were identified as Dean Torrefranca, a US citizen; Jim Bartilic, 59, punong barangay (village chief) of Lawaan 3, Talisay City; and Jed Ybañez, a worker of the Talisay City Hall.
Initial investigation showed that Bartilic and Ybañez tried to pacify Torrefranca who was involved in a domestic and property dispute when the US Marine allegedly shot them.
Witnesses then saw smoke coming out from the second floor of Torrefranca’s house at about 1 p.m.
In a radio interview, Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas, regional director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), said that Torrefranca died of suffocation inside his house after setting it on fire.
