Comelec resumes canvassing of midterm poll votes

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec), convening as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), continued Friday afternoon with the canvassing of votes for the midterm elections.

The NBOC has so far canvassed 107 out of 167 certificates of canvass (COCs) from across the country and posts overseas.

The Comelec’s latest partial and official count as of 9:30 p.m. on Thursday showed re-electionist Senators Cynthia Villar and Grace Poe leading the top 12 with 19,383,224 and 17,043,889 votes, respectively.

They were followed by former Presidential aide Bong Go, who garnered 15,685,847 votes.

Re-electionist Senator Bam Aquino, who earlier fell from the so-called “Magic 12” on Wednesday’s count, slid back into the winning circle at the 12th spot with 11,001,047 votes.

Below are the remaining senatorial candidates who complete the top 12:

  9. Bam Aquino 11,001,047

Meanwhile, the ongoing partial unofficial count from the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) transparency server showed that 97.88%—or votes from 85,988 out of 87,851 clustered precincts—have already been transmitted.

The NBOC first convened its canvassing last Monday but immediately adjourned  as no votes were transmitted to the Comelec.

Earlier, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the poll body aims to finish the canvassing of votes within the week.  (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
