Man, 72, hacks son to death in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY – Anger drove a father to kill his son inside their residence at Barangay Canturay, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental on May 20.
Police Maj. John Joel Batusbatusan, city police chief, identified the fatality as Art Gavilanes, 20.
Batusbatusan said the victim went home drunk last Sunday and his father, Loreto, 73, told him to calm down because his mother was sick but he refused to listen and became even noisy.
The victim allegedly created alarm and scandal inside their house, which prompted his father to allegedly attack him with a bolo while he was pretending to be asleep, early the following day.
Gavilanes sustained five hack wounds on his head, shoulder, and neck. He died on the spot.
Batusbatusan said the victim’s father got angry because of his son’s behavior.
“He (victim) would usually create alarm and scandal when he arrived home drunk, as attested by some residents in the village through complaints,” the city police chief added.
The suspect surrendered to the police but he was released on Tuesday afternoon after their family refused to file charges against him. (Glazyl Masculino)
