MERALCO bounced back strong to zap Columbian Dyip, 101-92, on Friday and barge into the win column of Season 44 of the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

After losing to Blackwater in overtime, 91-94, last Sunday, the Bolts were reinvigorated to secure their first win in two games.

Nigerian-American import Gani Lawal finished with 25 points and 27 rebounds, while Baser Amer notched 21 points plus five treys and rookie Trevis Jackson had 17 points to lead the Bolts. Chris Newsome and Cliff Hodge finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively, also for the Bolts.

“It’s always good to get that first win under your belt. We lost a really tough game the last time out in overtime. We even had a chance to win it in regulation. But today, we played a lot better offensively and defensively,” said Meralco coach Norman Black.

Columbian Dyip import Kyle Barone scored 26 points and CJ Perez added 22 points. But their efforts were not enough to save the Dyip from losing two consecutive games.

Scores:
Meralco 101 – Lawal 25, Amer 21, Jackson 17, Newsome 12, Hodge 10, Hugnatan 5, Tolomia 4, Pinto 3, De Ocampo 2, Salva 2, Faundo 0, Caram 0, Jamito 0, Quinto 0.
