CEBU CITY – Work was suspended at the Talisay City Hall yesterday after a bag feared to contain explosives was found abandoned in the building.

Bienvenido Llera, a job order worker, found a gray backpack outside the Persons with Disability Affairs Office on the upper ground floor of the city hall at past 9 a.m.

Suspecting that the bag may contain explosives, Llera sought help from security guards who brought the bag outside the building.

Workers were told to evacuate the building while awaiting the personnel of the regional police Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit to arrive.

Mayor Eduardo Gullas decided to suspend all work in the city hall. “The safety of our people is the paramount importance. I opted to suspend the works of all the employees in Talisay City Hall following this alleged serious threat to our safety, I firmly believe this is the best way at this point in time,” Gullas said.

The city hall was declared cleared at past 1 p.m. when the EOD team only found pieces of paper and clothes inside the bag.

The EOD team also inspected the offices and surroundings of the city hall but didn’t find any explosives. (Calvin D. Cordova)
