Former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang is certainly enjoying his off-season, as he is spending quality time with his family members and Team Lakay stablemates.

Most recently, he caught the remake of Aladdin alongside teammate and reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio. It was a movie the pair thoroughly enjoyed.

But what if it was Folayang who stumbled upon a genie and was granted three wishes? What would he wish for? Another World Title run? Riches beyond comprehension? The expansion of Team Lakay all over the world?

Ever a man for others, the Baguio City native plans to spend it on building up his nation even further.

“If I had three wishes, [my first] wish is that we instill more patriotism in every Filipino so that they can love their country more,” he said.

“Patriotism is important because we are always looking to change things here in the country, but we never do our part. I think that’s the important thing that we need to do. If you love this country, as much as possible, you think of the things that will be for the betterment of many.”

That being said, Folayang’s second wish stems from his spirituality.

Known as a devout Christian, his next wish is not surprising at all, as he knows that we’re here to live for so much more.

“My second wish is for salvation — not just for my family, but for everyone. We’re not just here to eat, pay the bills, and die. We’re here for a greater purpose. We’re here for direction in life.”

Instead of using his final wish on materialistic purposes, Folayang aims to use it for inner peace.

He prefers having wisdom instead of riches, and knowledge over material possessions.

“My third wish is wisdom and understanding — to be as wise as King Solomon and to understand things better,” he said.

“Wealth and fame would be useless if your nation is in shambles,” he added. “If you’re in a peaceful country, regardless if you’re famous or not, even if you’re just a normal citizen, you’re stable. You have a sense of security.”

That said, it looks like there is no better athlete to play the Aladdin character than Folayang.
