Couple killed, 3 kids hurt in QC gun attack

A couple was shot dead while their three children were wounded when a gunman barged into their house and shot them in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City, Monday night.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) probers said victims Jonathan Manuel, 38, and his wife, Genalyn, 39, died on the spot after they were shot inside their house.

Staff Sergeant Genaro Diego of QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the couple and their three sons, aged 6 to 14, were in their residence in Barangay Payatas B when the incident happened around 8:30 p.m.

Investigation showed that a man wearing a blue helmet, blue long sleeved shirt and pants, suddenly barged into the victims’ house and repeatedly shot the couple.

Two of the three boys were hit by stray bullets in their thigh and leg while the other one sustained bruises after being hit by broken glass.

The gunman immediately boarded a motorcycle driven by his cohort and escaped.

The family’s neighbors immediately sought help from authorities and rushed the three children to East Avenue Medical Center where they are still recuperating.

Police have yet to establish the motive behind the incident as family members of the victims claimed the couple has no known enemy.

Further investigation is ongoing to identify the suspects and establish the motive behind the killing. (Alexandria San Juan)
