MANILA, Philippines — Cagayan de Oro City Police Office Director Col. Nelson Aganon has passed away after suffering from “serious injuries” in the midst of training, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.

“The PNP high command mourns the passing of Police Colonel Nelson Aganon who succumbed to serious injuries suffered during training,” said PNP Spokesman Bernard Banac.

“His death is a huge loss to the PNP, particularly the CDO CPO that he ably led in his last command assignment.”

“PCol Aganon died in line of duty while fulfilling a duty at personal capability enhancement and skills development that all PNP personnel are expected to perform,” he added.

Meanwhile, Cagayan de Oro Mayor Oscar Moreno on Tuesday confirmed that Aganon died of a motorcycle accident in relation to a police training.

“Although we were advised about the severity of the damage he has suffered as a result of the motorcycle incident he endured, we were still hopeful that he would soon recover. But the news of his passing has dashed those hopes,” Moreno said in Facebook post.

Moreno also expressed his condolences to Aganon’s family.

The PNP has assured they will release all benefits and entitlements due to the police official.

“His orphaned family is assured of speedy release of all benefits and entitlements due to deceased PNP members,” Banac said. (Editor: Katherine G. Adraneda)
