Tempo Inter-Schools rapid chess slated

Manila Prince Hotel will host the first Tempo Inter-Schools rapid chess championships on July 20.
The event, sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), coincides with the 37th year anniversary celebration of Tempo, a sister publication of the Manila Bulletin.
At least 300 students are expected to take part in the one-day tournament that features separate competitions for college, high school and elementary students.
It marks the first time that Manila Prince, a 300-room business hotel located at the corner of United Nations Avenue and San Marcelino Street, will host a sports event.
Each category features Open and women’s contests, bringing to six the number of individual titles at stake.
The top scorer after the seven-round Swiss System event will be declared champion. Time control is 15 minutes with 10 seconds increment.
The team champion, on the other hand, will be determined by the top scorer of each school in six categories.
Online registration is under way and will end at noon on July 10.
