Duterte tells daughter Sara: Don’t run for President

In looking out for his family, President Duterte has urged his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio to stay and serve in their hometown instead of running for President or other national post.
The President told his daughter to “avoid” the presidency that will only bring suffering as long as there are opposition personalities like Sen. Antonio F. Trillanes IV and “Otso Diretso” around.
“I am stating publicly now that I am discouraging my daughter to run for any national office. Maawa kasi ako. It’s an office – entitlement of ano, honor, lahat,” Duterte said during a television show hosted by Pastor Apollo Quiboloy last week.
“Pero sabihin ko kay Inday pati kay Pulong, it doesn’t pay. Huwag ‘Day magdusa ka. I have to swallow ‘yung ginagawa sa inyo. Nakita mo ‘pag ginagawa akong mga – ng mga drug pusher,” he said.
Duterte warned his daughter against the presence of Trillanes and other politicians who think they are better than everyone else.
“As long as we have politicians like Trillanes, itong mga Magdalo. Akala mo kung sila lang rin ang marunong. They think they are the only patriots of this country. ‘Yung mga Otso Diretso. You better…Huwag na lang,” he said.
He recognized that although he was not saying only the Dutertes could keep the good environment in Davao City, his daughter has proven her “mettle” in leading the city. The incumbent Davao mayor won her reelection bid in the recent midterm elections.
“Ayaw ko kay Inday, sabi ko. Diyan ka lang, dito ka lang sa Davao ‘Day. Kailangan ka ng tao,” Duterte said.
Duterte, halfway through his six year term, maintained that the presidency was a thankless job that entails long working hours, insults, and criticisms. He said he has often been “reviled” and “screwed” over by critics.
“At the end of the day, maraming papel, trabaho, pagkabukas you face an angry – paid hacks. Hindi mo malaman bakit ka inatake na lang bigla and misquoted and sila ‘yung nag – sila ‘yung nag-una ng fake news,” he said.
The President had previously advised Sara against running for President to avoid the suffering he has endured. (Genalyn Kabiling)
