A 5-year-old girl from Alabama, United States has taken to making “blessing bags” with her allowance money to give to those who are homeless.

Tynslee Blue Bennet seems to have outgrown buying toys or sweets, instead choosing to purchase ponchos and umbrellas at the local Dollar Tree to give to the homeless in her community. As per Good Morning America on June 6, Tynslee decided to create her “blessing bags” after seeing a man sleeping on a mattress near a dumpster.

“We cooked dinner and we brought him a plate,” Haley Bennet, Tynslee’s mom, said in the report. “My daughter was like, ‘Where is his house? What does he do if it rains? What does he do if it gets cold?’”

Bennet said she and Tynslee do research on what homeless people often need the most and fill the “blessing bags” with these sundries, from food to personal hygiene products such as deodorant, shampoo and face towels. They then distribute the bags to the local park where homeless people usually gather.

They started distributing just five bags last 2018, but Bennet shared they have been giving around 20 to 30 bags lately.

“She wants people to be aware that this is actually a problem in the city she lives,” added Bennet.

Today, the Bennets are getting more people involved with Tynslee’s initiative and have invited some friends to join in. Cody Cepeda/JB
