Pilipinas 3×3 Patriots’ Cup fires off today

CEBU CITY: Powerhouse teams Gold’s Gym Pasig and Wilkins Balanga with 10 other squads will vie for the crown in the 2019 Chooks to Go Pilipinas 3×3 Patriots’ Cup presented by Coca-Cola today at the SM Seaside City Cebu here.

The Kings and the Risers, who dominated the inaugural conference, will have their hands full against import-laden teams among them world No. 14 VetHealth Delhi 3BL in the second conference of the first-ever national 3×3 league in the country.

Pasig, who dominated the first two legs and the grand finals of the inaugural President’s Cup, will field in a veteran lineup composed of Joshua Munzon, Dylan Ababou, Taylor Statham and Nikola Pavlovic.

Two-leg winner Balanga will be led by Alvin Pasaol, Karl Dehesa, Chris De Chavez and new reinforcement Prince Orizu.

Inderbir Ding Gill, Bikramjit Gill, Kiran Shastri and Arsh Deep Singh will carry the fight for Delhi 3BL.

Home teams Max4-Birada Cebu and Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras are expected to put up a good fight in their home turf.

Seasoned guard Darell Menina will lead Max4-Birada Cebu that has Mark Panerio, Prince Canete and Nigerian player Rich Managor while SWU will lean on Lamine Thiam, Red Cachuela, Dyll Roncal and Shaquille Imperial.

Returning in the league are Vigan MiGuard (Christian Singson, JR Cawaling, Rodan Reducto and Rene Cunanan), Tycoon Ballers QC (Rod Ebondo, Ryan Arambulo, Andrian Celada and Vince Mallari), Zamboanga Valientes (Ferdinand Lusdoc, Rino Berame, Lyndon Gudez and Darylse Olago) and Inoza-Gulf Suprene Boosters Bulacan (Clarence Graham, Kobe Caranongan, Raymark Matias and Louis Montes).

Basilan Phenom, bannered by Troy Rike, Roosevelt Adams, Franky Johnson and Marcus Hammonds, will replace the now-defunct Pasay Voyagers even as newcomers Thunder Pateros Hunters (RJ Deles, Ervin Flores, Lanz Tan and Mark Taylor) and Mindoro Tamaraws (Mark Doligon, Nico Bolos, Justin Tan and Ray Miller) will also join the fray.

The second leg will unfold on June 23 at SM Fairvew in Quezon City followed by the third stop at SM Muntinlupa on July 6. The fourth leg on July 13 and the grand finals on July 27 will be held at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong.

The league’s first conference titled President’s Cup saw 12 teams collide in five legs for a P1 million prize and a spot in the 2019 FIBA 3×3 Doha Masters.

It culminated with the holding of the Asia Pacific Super Quest, which saw Pasig, Balanga and 10 foreign teams vie for the $50,000 prize pool, two tickets in the Doha Masters, two slots in the Kunshan Challengers and a berth in the Penang Challengers.
