Generika-Ayala vented its ire on Marinerang Pilipinas following a 25-18, 25-15, 25-23 win in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference yesterday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

After getting blown out by F2 Logistics, 12-25, 21-25, 17-25, in the opener last Saturday, the Lifesavers bounced back to barge into the win column, sending the Lady Skippers to their second straight loss in one hour and 23 minutes.

Patty Orendain, who struggled on opener, put up an all-around performance for Generika-Ayala with 18 points off 15 attacks, a pair of aces and a block and had 16 digs and eight excellent receptions.

Ria Meneses and Fiola Ceballos had 11 points each while Angeli Araneta added eight markers for the Lifesavers, who also drew impressive performance from setter Jamie Lavitoria and Kath Arado.

“This is win is a huge help for us, especially the morale of the team, as the league just started,” said Generika-Ayala head coach Sherwin Meneses, who chalked up his first win.

“I’m glad that we managed to recover from our first game loss it was an ugly defeat for us. I hope that we could sustain this good morale for our next matches.”

The Lifesavers easily took the first two sets and even mounted a 23-16 spread in the third set from Mean Mendrez’s attack but the Lady Skippers, led by Dimdim Pacres and Chiara Permentilla, unleashed a 7-1 run cutting down to lead within one as Mendrez committed an attack error.

But Ceballos came to the rescue and denied the expansion team’s comeback hopes.

From laying a big fat egg in blocking last game against F2 Logistics’ 11 rejections, Generika-Ayala had eight kill blocks on Marinerang Pilipina and outmuscled the expansion team in spiking with a 43-31 differential.

Pacres was the lone double digits scorer with 11 points while Permentilla scored seven markers off the bench for the Lady Skippers, who suffered their second three-set defeat following an opening-day loss to Sta. Lucia.
