Duterte says PH unlikely to be free of illegal drugs

President Duterte on Tuesday said that the Philippines will unlikely be free of its illegal drug problems because of the different international syndicates trying to enter the country.
Duterte said the country has to deal with the illegal drugs being thrown into the country’s waters.
“So we are suspecting that the (Sinaloa) of Mexico are testing the waters. But we have some sort of – hindi naman hard – but we have proof that they have also engaged the Triad, Bamboo Triad, dito sa Asia,” he said.
According to the President, the Philippines would still need a lot of resources to fully combat the threat of illegal drugs.
“It remains to be a problem. It would need a lot of resources to combat it,” Duterte said.
“It might appear just to be an ordinary law and order problem. But it will hound the Philippines until kingdom come because it is worldwide,” he added.
Duterte also said that combating illegal drugs was also one of the topics discussed during the recent 34th Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Bangkok, Thailand.
The President said he was asked how the Philippines was dealing with the problem.
“Sri Lanka would like to copy – would like to…Sabi niya, ‘Paano mo ginawa? How do you do it?’ ‘Simple, just kill them.’ There’s no other way to do it,” he said.
Ending the illegal drug trade was one of Duterte’s promises when he was campaigning for the presidency.
He said it would only take him three to six months to solve the problem. Duterte later admitted that he underestimated the drug situation in the country. (Argyll Cyrus B. Geducos)
