The town of Canlaon in Negros Oriental province formally became a city through Proclamation No. 193 signed by then President Ferdinand Marcos.
Republic Act No. 3445, the city’s charter, lapsed into law on June 18, 1961, and took effect six years later.
Canlaon was established as a municipality in October 1946 through an executive order signed by then President Manuel Roxas.
Dubbed the “Vegetable Basket of the Visayas,” Canlaon City mainly produces rice, vegetables, sugarcane and corn. Its population in 2015 was 54,509.

The P1-billion Pasa Small Reservoir Project was inaugurated at Barangay Pasa in Ilagan City, capital of Isabela province, to augment the water needs of the city’s farmers, increase their rice production and mitigate flooding.
The irrigation project, built with the support of a $21.76-million (P935.68-million) grant from the Korea International Cooperation Agency, involves the construction of a dam with a storage capacity of 4.28 million cubic meters and is seen to irrigate farms in the villages of Pasa, Minabang, Morado, Fuyo and Santa Victoria.
Its irrigation facilities provide direct water delivery to farmer beneficiaries and a watershed to minimize dam siltation.
