3 PH chessers stay undefeated in Indonesia

Filipino International Masters Daniel Quizon and John Marvin Miciano downed their respective opponents yesterday to stay unbeaten after two rounds of the Asian Junior Chess Championships in Solo, Indonesia Tuesday night.

Quizon, 15, turned back Indonesian Akmalnaidi Akbar in 48 moves of a Benoni while Miciano trounced teammate Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano in 30 moves of a Catalan to post their second straight win in the nine-round tournament staking three spots to the World Juniors set in October in New Delhi, India.

Another PH bet Woman IM Kylen Joy Mordido, coming off a title conquest of the rapid side event the day before, likewise, snared two straight wins, including a victory over another Indonesian Lorens Xena to remain on top.

She will go for third win against co-leader and fourth seed WIM Sakshi Chitlange of India in the third round.

Quizon was battling against third-seeded Iranian Orimi Mahdi Gholami while Miciano, who made it here by virtue of his winning the East Asia 18-Under tilt last year, was tackling top seed IM Nguyen Anh Koi of Vietnam in the third round at press time.

Reigning national juniors champion Jeth Romy Morado smashed local bet Dhatuyo Budiarto to stay half a point off the pace with 1.5 points.

Sevillano dropped outside the top 10 with a point to show.

Jerlyn Mae San Diego split the point with Anjum Noshin of Bangladesh, WFM Samantha Glo Revita downed Indonesian WFM Alua Sekar Kinasih and Vic Glysen Derotas, the country’s current junior girls titlist, bested Li Joy Ching of Hong Kong to jump to a 19-player logjam at 11th with a point each.
