MANILA, Philippines — Having a Filipino suicide bomber can be considered as one of the “greatest fear” of the country’s security sector, Muntinlupa Lone District Representative Ruffy Biazon on Thursday said.

“A Filipino suicide bomber has long been one of the greatest fears of those in the security sector. It means that the indoctrination of violent extremism has penetrated our society,” Biazon said in a text message to INQUIRER.net.

“Kasi ang understanding natin dati, yung extremism talaga ang nagdudulot on suicide bombers.” the congressman said in the weekly Serye Forum in Quezon City.

“Kaya nagkakaroon ng suicide bombers.”

Biazon’s pronouncements come after it was confirmed that a Filipino was one of two suicide bombers  behind the recent bomb attacks on an Army camp in Indanan, Sulu last week.

The recent bombings claimed the lives of eight people — three soldiers, three civilians and the two bombers. Meanwhile, 12 soldiers and 10 civilians sustained injuries.

“In general, it’s a culture of Filipinos, wala  tayong suicide bombers,” Biazon said, as the vice chairman on the House Committee on Security and National Defense

He added that the particular case concerns a verified Filipino suicide bomber, it was “an indication that indoctrination is taking root now,” and that the matter should be “seriously looked into.”

“So kung nagkaroon na ng isa, nagbunga na,  there might be others that are in breeding ground na,” Biazon pointed out.  (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
