2 cops arrested as suspects in lawyer’s killing in Rizal town

SAN PEDRO CITY-Two police officers tagged in the killing of a lawyer in Rodriguez town in Rizal province were arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), authorities said on Sunday (July 7).
A CIDG report said Corporal Alberto Umali and Senior Master Sergeant Michael Eralino, both assigned to the Rodriguez police station, were arrested in separate operations on Saturday (July 6) as suspects in the ambush of Edilberto Golla Jr. in the same town last May.
Golla, 45 and a native of Sultan Kudarat, was shot and killed while in his vehicle outside the Eastwood Greenview Subdivision where he lived.
Eralino, meanwhile, was also tagged in another killing in San Mateo, Rizal in which the victim was identified as a certain Conrado Esteban.
The CIDG said the arrests were covered by warrants for the two officers issued by judge Cynthia Mariño- Ricablanca of Sta. Cruz, Laguna for murder and illegal possession of firearms.
The CIDG seized from Eralino his service firearm, two grenades and several bullets. Authorities seized bullets from Umali.
