Filipino bantamweight Arthur Villanueva failed in his bid to capture a world title late Saturday night in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Nourdine Oubaali of France retained his World Boxing Council 118-lb crown by stopping Villanueva in the seventh round at Barys Arena.

It was Villanueva’s second shot at a world title and the defeat to Oubaali could be his last.

Fighting out of the ALA Boxing Club of Cebu, Villanueva received instructions from Edmond and Edito Villamor and Michael Domingo.
