A person posing as a police officer was arrested in Rizal for alleged extortion.

The Philippine National Police-Integrity Monitoring Entrapment Group (PNP-IMEG) staged an entrapment operation at 5 p.m. on Sunday that led to the arrest of Robel Yap Canlas after receiving the marked money of P4,000 from the complainant, Maureen Coronel, a resident of Rodriguez, who was applying as a policewoman.

Canlas introduced himself as SPO2 Gerome Canlas and offered assistance to the victim in securing a height waiver in exchange for P40,000 when she first applied in August 2018.

Months later, the suspect demanded P20,000 for the neuro and medical examinations.

On July 14, 2019, Canlas demanded P4,000 as an additional processing fee.

Canlas is under the custody of IMEG for filing of criminal charges. DARWIN PESCO
