Cops probe series of bomb threats in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said they will investigate the reported series of bomb threats reported in the city.
The first bomb threat report came from a bakeshop and restaurant along Katipunan Avenue, Barangay Blue Ridge A on the morning of July 12, according to police.
The bakeshop and restaurant manager told police that he received a phone call from an unidentified man around 8 a.m. and threatened to blow up the establishment. The manager’s name was withheld for security reasons.
Members of QCPD-Project 4 station went to the place and conducted a thorough inspection but no explosive device as found there.
Also on July 12, a bomb prankster who identified himself as Kumander Jaguar Sultan victimized Dapo Restaurant and Half Saints Restaurant, both located in Barangay South Triangle.
According to police, Sultan claimed he would blow up their establishments as he demanded P50,000 from the two restaurants.
Both incidents were reported to QCPD’s Kamuning station, which then conducted a thorough inspection of the restaurants. No bomb was also found in those establishments.

On July 11, however, an explosion occurred in front of Chung Mi Rae Korean Restaurant in Barangay South Triangle.

Authorities said that an MK2 fragmentation hand grenade caused the blast.
“We already referred this incident to our PNP [Philippine National Police] Anti-cybercrime for a thorough investigation, para ma-identify ang sender at managot sa batas,” QCPD chief Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr. said in a statement on Tuesday.
Police then reminded the public that under the Anti-Bomb Joke law, bomb pranksters could be jailed for up to five years or fined as much as P40,000. /kga
