The shorts of ‘Sine Kabataan’

In addition to feature films, a collection of short films created by young filmmakers will be screened across cinemas nationwide as part of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2019.
Under the category “Sine Kabataan,” the chosen entries will receive P10,000-funding each, and will be paired for showing with the official PPP 2019 feature films.

“This year, kasama ang Sine Kabataan sa pag-celebrate ng 100 years of Philippine cinema. We offer 10 films as well na patuloy na humahamon sa ating kabataang filmmakers na maghulma at mag-kwento ng storya na ayon sa kanilang pananaw at ayon sa kanilang nakikita ay kailangang bigyan ng importansya. Sine Kabataan is a short film competition of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino which provides a platform for the youth to voice their stories through film,” said Diño.

The Sine Kabataan 2019 Entries are as follows:

‘Pinggu, Pwede Na?’
Directors: Elle Ubas and Johanna Valdez
Logline: A depressed teenager lets a stuffed toy penguin and a paper-filled jar decide when she’s going to end her life.

‘Magna’
Directors: Geoffrey Solidum, Alexis Siscar, and Stanley Barroga
Logline: Despite all the preparations and safety measures, no one is safe from eager, cunning thieves.

‘Kalakaro’
Director: Rodson Verr Suarez
Logline: A less-fortunate child playfully finds his way to experience how to become a real kid again.

‘Chok’
Directors: Richard Jeroui Salvadico and Arlie Sweet Sumagaysay
Logline: The chalks of a teacher mysteriously disappear. As she discovers who the culprit is, her life and perception changes.

‘Baon’
Director: Czareena Rozhiel Malasig
Logline: An innocent boy’s greatest dream of being a policeman is ruined by a new rule being implemented by the state. This changes him from a policeman aspirant to a young criminal.

‘Tinay’
Directors: Andre Jacques Tigno and Angelo Fernando
Logline: A story in one orphanage where parents are adopted instead of the children.

‘Atchoy’
Director: Regin de Guzman
Logline: “’Di pa man buo ang aking katawan, tahanan ko na ang Kadiliman.”

‘Kanlungan’
Directors: Leslie Ann Ramirez
Logline: “Si Ani ay pitong taong gulang na pangkaraniwang bata. Sa kabila ng pagiging masiyahin niya sa loob ng kanilang tahanan kapiling ang kaniyang lola, nagkukubli ang sakit na pilit niyang ikinukubli sa kaniyang mga ngiti.”

‘Toto, Tawag ka ng Ate Mo’
Directors: Mary Franz Salazar
Logline: “Toto, Tawag ka ng Ate Mo” tells a story of a young boy named Toto who calls a college student girl named Esme. Her mother’s conversation from the phone leads the real truth behind why Esme let him call “ate” instead of its original title.
