Marcus Del Rosario and Jenaila Rose Prulla stunned their fancied rivals to rule their division in the CPSP International Juniors Tennis Championships Week 1 at the Manila Polo Club claycourts in Makati City.

The eighth-seeded Del Rosario swept No. 2 Chang Tzu Li of Chinese Taipei, 6-3, 6-4, to capture the boys singles title while qualifier Prulla toppled top seed Lin Fang An also of Chinese Taipei, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, for the girls singles crown.

It was the first title for this year for Del Rosario, eclipsing his semifinal finish in the previous edition of this Grade 5 tournament.

He never dropped a set in disposing of Chinese Taipei’s Wu, Ji, 6-0, 6-1; Korea’s Lee Haesun, 6-4, 6-1; New Zealand’s Jay Friend, 6-3, 6-2; and Chinese Taipei’s Tang Cheng, 6-2, 6-2.

Likewise, it was also Prulla’s first trophy as she had to go through the two-round qualifying round before beating Korea’s Lee Eun Ji, 1-6, 6-4, 6-0; Chinese Taipei’s Sung Hsing-Ju, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3; and local bets Althea Ong, 6-2, 6-3, and Isabela Carlos, 6-1, 6-1.
