Pacquiao challenges Floyd to rematch

SEN. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao on Wednesday challenged fellow boxing icon Floyd Mayweather to a rematch to once and for all end the clamor of fans to see them fight in the ring again.
The senator-boxer issued the challenge after Mayweather claimed in his Instagram post that Pacquiao’s career and legacy depends on his name.
“Kung gusto niya eh ‘di ang comment ko naman eh bumalik siya. Lumaban siya (My comment is, why doesn’t he go back [to the ring] and fight [me again]),” Pacquiao said in a chance interview.
Pacquiao earlier tagged Mayweather in his Twitter post, “You come to my fight and then use my name in a post but I’m the one that is trying to stay relevant? If you want to be relevant again…#MayPac2.”
Asked about his Twitter post insinuating his challenge for a rematch with Mayweather, Pacquiao said, “Yes. Kung baga kung gusto niya para ‘di siya tatanungin ng mga tao, tumigil na ‘yung pagtatanong ng mga tao (In a way, if he wants to so that people will no longer ask him, so that the people will stop asking [for us to have a rematch]).”
Pressed whether he can still fight Mayweather, the newly crowned World Boxing Association super welterweight champion said, “Oo. Basta kaya niya (Yes. [I] Hope he still can [fight me]).”
“Ako naman kahit sino ang makakalaban ko (I can fight anyone insofar as I’m concerned),” said Pacquiao, who recently defeated American boxer Keith Thurman that earned him the WBA Super Welterweight belt.
Asked whether he can beat Mayweather the next time around, Pacquiao said, “Lagi naman tayo naniniwala sa sarili natin (I always believe in myself).”
“Kung gusto niya lumaban, kung gusto niya huminto ang pagtatanong ng mga fans lumaban siya. ‘Yan ang gusto ng mga fans eh (If he wants to fight, if he wants the fans to stop asking [whether we will have a rematch], he must fight [me again]. That’s what the fans want,” Pacquiao said.
On whether the rematch be held either in the United States or in the Philippines, Pacquiao said, “Kahit saan. Basta sa taas ng ring (Anywhere. But it must be in the ring].”
