PRISON CELLTwo inmates of the Quezon City Jail escaped while an earthquake drill was being conducted in Quezon City yesterday.

The Bureau of Jail and Penology Management is now hunting down Mamerto Valenzuela and Dennis Valdez.

Valenzuela is facing rape charges while Valdez is facing drug charges, police said.

BJMP personnel Neil Camalig reported the incident to the Quezon City Police District at around 8:15 a.m.

Camalig said that the two inmates went missing after they conducted an earthquake drill at Quezon City Jail in Barangay Kamuning at around 4:40 a.m.

“There are two who managed to escape from our personnel’s watch and we have an ongoing hot pursuit operation to recapture them,” BJMP spokesman Jail Major Xavier Solda added.

“We still need to investigate the matter, though initially, we were told that they took advantage of the ongoing earthquake drill earlier today,” Solda said. (Joseph Pedrajas)
