LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Mookie Betts homered in each of his first three at-bats as the Boston Red Sox clobbered the New York Yankees for the second straight day, winning 10-5 on Friday.

All of Betts’ homers came off Yankees starting pitcher James Paxton who, like Japan’s Masahiro Tanaka in Boston’s 19-3 win on Thursday, got roughed up early.

Betts led off the bottom of the first at Fenway Park with a homer before hitting another solo shot in the third and a two-run towering blast in the fourth for the defending World Series champions.

“I got some good pitches to hit and I just didn’t miss them,” said Betts.

Betts’ performance marked the fourth straight day in the Major League Baseball with a three-homer game, extending a record. He followed the New York Mets Robinson Cano (Tuesday), St. Louis Cardinals Paul DeJong (Wednesday) and Minnesota Twins Nelson Cruz (Thursday).

The right fielder doubled home a run in the sixth and grounded out in the eighth, posting for his fifth career three-home run game.

J.D. Martinez also went deep and drove in three runs, and Rafael Devers had three hits as the Red Sox have outscored the visiting Yankees 29-8 in the last two games.

Betts’ fourth-inning home run made it 7-0.

“It has been a long season. I just try to get in where I can,’’ Betts said.

Paxton surrendered seven runs on nine hits in four innings as Yankees starters have failed to pitch past the fourth inning in six consecutive contests.

Andrew Cashner recorded the win for the Red Sox, who recently acquired him in a trade.

He allowed three runs on 10 hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings, striking out six.
