(Seated from left) Ayala Foundation Senior Director for Social Development Joanna Duarte and President Ruel Maranan sign an agreement with Cagayan de Oro City, represented by City Mayor Oscar Moreno and DepEd CDO senior division superintendent Jonathan de la Peña for the CENTEX Training Institute.

Building on its strong partnerships with the local government, local communities, and community-based organizations, Ayala Foundation launched education and leadership initiatives in Cagayan de Oro City on July 19.

In a series of events held at the Cagayan de Oro City Hall and the Father William Masterson Elementary School, Ayala Foundation launched the Centex Training Institute, <code/IT>, and the fourth cohort of Leadership Communities (LeadCom).

The Centex Training Institute aims to develop teacher effectiveness in the classroom and to ensure continuous professional development for teachers. Offering intensive training, mentoring and enrichment sessions, online learning, and community engagement the Centex Training Institute aims to reach 30 public school teachers and 10 school heads.

Meanwhile, <code/it> introduces computer science concepts and skills training to Filipino school children in underserved communities. Launched earlier this year, <code/it> is currently training public school teachers and support staff in basic computer science and coding skills. Cagayan de Oro City’s Father William Masterson Elementary School is the fourth school that has gained access to <code/it>.

Now on its fourth year in the city, LeadCom is a year-long program that equips youth leaders with the skills to help promote development in their respective communities. Through LeadCom, the youth are enabled and empowered to identify their community’s urgent needs and concerns, develop and implement solutions through projects, and find ways to sustain these projects’ positive effects.

“We are grateful that Cagayan de Oro City has been one of our most consistent partners for the implementation of development programs—and your trust continues to inspire us to keep serving our communities,” said Ayala Foundation President Ruel Maranan.

The partnership for the implementation of the Centex Training Institute was formalized with the signing of an agreement by key officials from Ayala Foundation, the City Government of Cagayan de Oro, and the Department of Education CDO Division. The partner organizations were represented by Maranan, City Mayor Oscar Moreno, and DepEd CDO senior division superintendent Jonathan de la Peña.
