Suspect in boy’s slay shot dead after grabbing cop’s gun

The man, who allegedly stabbed to death his four-year-old nephew, was shot dead Monday night after he allegedly grabbed the firearm of a cop in Tondo, Manila.

Police said Edmundo Perucho, 51, was gunned down by members of Manila Police District (MPD) Moriones Station (PS-2) when he allegedly snatched the gun of the police officer at around 8:30 p.m.

A closed-circuit television footage showed the victim, identified as Lanz Genesis dela Cruz, was playing near their house in Parola Compound,Tondo, Manila, at around 1 p.m. Moments after, he entered the suspect’s house.

Police said a witness later saw Perucho holding a kitchen knife while shouting: “Patayin niyo na ako. Pumatay ako ng bata,” at around 1:40 p.m. on Monday.

Another witness said upon hearing Perucho, he immediately went inside the suspect’s house and found the lifeless boy bathing in his own blood, police added.

The boy was rushed to Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center but he was declared dead on arrival due to 11 stab wounds in the different parts of the body.

Prior to the incident, police the suspect had a drinking session with the victim’s brother.  Perucho was accusing his wife for cheating on him.

Perucho’s wife is the elder sister of the boy’s father.

Investigators also said the suspect was also accusing his wife’s family of tolerating her alleged infidelity. (Erma Edera)
