Heavy rain floods 202 areas in Metro Manila, Central Luzon – NDRRMC

AT least 202 areas in Metro Manila and Central Luzon were flooded due to continuous heavy rain, rendering some roads impassable to light vehicles, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Saturday.

The NDRRMC, in an advisory by its Executive Director Ricardo Jalad, said of the total, flooding in 22 areas have subsided.

At least 150 areas in the 13 cities and municipalities of Central Luzon are flooded, three of which have subsided, the NDRRMC said.

About 52 areas in six cities in Metro Manila are flooded, 19 of which have subsided, the NDRRMC said.

In a separate advisory, the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office said gutter-deep floods were reported at Fugoso St.; Bambang St.; España Avenue corner Vicente Cruz St.; P. Ocampo cor Arellano; Altura St. in front of Altura market; Taft Ave. cor Pedro Gil; Taft Ave. cor United Nations; Quirino cor Leveriza; Quirino cor Pedro Gil; Quirino cor Anak Bayan and Concha St.

The Makati City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office reported that Pasong Tirad; Mola St. cor Cervera; Primo Rivera cor Onyx; Godet St.; Dela Rosa to Javier St.; Washington St. and Villar Pierce Taylo to Dela Rosa remained impassable due to 19-inch floods.

In Las Piñas, the Zapote viaduct is not passable to light vehicles, according to the Southern Police District.

Monsoon rains will continue to be experienced in Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon. Palawan, Zambales, Pampanga, and Bataan.

Due to the southwest monsoon, cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of Central Luzon.

The NDRRMC said that cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms caused by the trough of the Low Pressure Area (LPA) would prevail over Bicol, Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao Region.

Localized thunderstorms – partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers – will prevail over the country.

The NDRRMC said its Operations Center (NDRRMOC) was now prepared with its Emergency Alert and Warning Message (EAWM) for the dissemination of updates to the affected areas with the help of the Telecommunication Companies (TELCOs).

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (RDRRMC) of Region 3 and Metro Manila were continuously monitoring their respective areas and ensuring the “widest dissemination of weather updates and advisories” through SMS (Social Messaging Service) and official social media websites. JAN ARCILLA, DARWIN PESCO
