A fraud investigation has been launched into the business dealings of a Surrey boat dealership following allegations of fraud, say police.

Surrey RCMP began receiving complaints in June about Breakwater Marine, a dealership located in the 16000-block Fraser Highway. Since then, officers have been collecting information about the alleged fraud and, on Thursday, executed a search warrant on the business.

During the search, police seized several boats and arrested one person.

On Breakwater Marine’s Better Business Bureau profile, the business is given an F rating, and is linked to 20 complaints, a small number of which remain unanswered or unresolved. Among the recorded complaints are customers unhappy with what appeared to be a lack of action on various jobs and orders, and misleading project timelines.

Police have not disclosed the details of the alleged fraud being investigated.

While Surrey RCMP’s economic crime unit continues to investigate, police believe there may be other victims who have not come forward. Investigators are asking people who have conducted business with Breakwater Marine or anyone who may have been defrauded of cash or property to come forward.

Anyone who believes they may have been victimized by fraud or who may have information about Breakwater Marine is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
