Over P51-million worth of suspected shabu weighing 7.5 kilograms was discovered by a fisherman in the island town of Biri, Northern Samar last Saturday.

The fisherman whose identity was withheld for security reasons reportedly stumbled upon four big transparent plastic bags that contain white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu.

Biri police said three of them weigh about two kilograms each and was sealed while the fourth weighing about 1.5 kilograms has been opened.

The illegal drugs were found on the shorelines of Sitio Pagul, Barangay Pio del Pilar.

Police acknowledged the fisherman for turning them over and helping in their anti-illegal drugscampaign.

“The sincere and religious campaign of Biri Municipal Police Station against illegal drugs has caught the hearts and minds of the residents of this municipality to cooperate in every activities conducted by this office in eradicating this social menace,” police said.

Police Brig. Gen. Dionardo Carlos, Eastern Visayas regional police, said the illegal drugs were turned over to lawmen immediately after they discovered.

Samples have been sent to the Crime Laboratory for analysis and confirmation. The rest has been kept as evidence.

This is the first time that big plastic sachets containing shabu was found floating in the province.

Several bricks containing cocaine were found floating in the sea in Mindanao and some parts of Luzon since February last year.

They were believed to be part of a shipment that was supposed to be transported to Australia.

Carlos said they are now investigating to determine the source of the shabu. (Aaron Recuenco and Marie Tonette Marticio)
