Monsoon rains persist in Luzon

Continuous monsoon rains will be concentrated on the western section of Northern and Central Luzon while Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have isolated rain showers particularly in the afternoon or evening.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Meno Mendoza said scattered monsoon rains and thunderstorms will affect Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience fair weather in the morning and isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.
Mendoza advised the public to take extra precaution against possible flash floods in low-lying areas and landslides over mountainous areas.
This weather scenario will persist in the next few days.
Mendoza said the typhoon with international name “Krosa” off the Pacific Ocean is still less likely to affect or enter the country.
However, a gale warning remains in effect as sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of the country.
Fisherfolk are prevented from setting sail into the coastlines of extreme Northern Luzon due to rough seas that will be dangerous for small sea craft. The rest of the country will have moderate to rough seas.
Meanwhile, the inclement weather last week contributed to the gradual improvement of the Angat Dam in Bulacan.
PAGASA monitoring said Angat Dam water level rose to 174.13 meters yesterday from 172.31 meters last Saturday.
The gradual increase in the water level of Angat Dam has been a respite for the major water reservoir since falling below the 160-meter critical level in July.
However, its current level remains below the Angat Dam’s 180-meter minimum operating level and 210-meter normal high water level during the rainy season. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
