Kenneth McAlpine, a former contestant on Amazing Race Canada, has been identified as the hiker found dead Tuesday on Mount Gimli in B.C.’s Kootenay region.

McAlpine, who worked as a cook in Rossland, died from an apparent fall while hiking alone.

The 28-year-old had been reported missing on Monday.

His body was found around 11 a.m. Tuesday. South Columbia Search and Rescue say it appeared that McAlpine had fallen down the front face of the mountain.

The Nelson Star, quoting search and rescue officials, reported that McAlpine fell about 260 metres.

McAlpine and friend Ryan Lachapelle competed together as Team Give’r on the 2017 season of Amazing Race Canada. The pair finished second.

“We are heartbroken over the loss of Season 5 racer Kenneth McAlpine. Part of Team Give’r, Kenneth’s infectious personality left a lasting impression not only on us, but with viewers across the country. His family and friends are in our thoughts and hearts during this difficult time,” Amazing Race Canada said in online statement.
