Nine injured after bus carrying farm workers crashes in Abbotsford

Nine people were injured in a single-vehicle accident involving a school bus carrying dozens of farm workers in Abbotsford on Saturday morning.

The accident happened around 8 a.m on Ross Road and 58 Avenue.

Witnesses say the bus left the road and rolled into a ditch.

B.C. Emergency Health Services says nine people were taken to hospital. Six were treated for minor injuries while three others remain in hospital in stable condition.

Abbotsford police, who are investigating along with Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement and WorkSafe B.C., say there were approximately 36 people on board the bus at the time of the accident.

Sections of Ross Road and 58 Avenue have been closed to traffic and police are asking drivers to avoid the area.

Please avoid the area to allow emergency vehicle access and to avoid getting stuck in traffic. Will update when roads re-open.
